In this article, we will install the VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro virtualization program on the Debian 9.3 Stretch operating system.
How to Install VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro on Debian 9.3 Stretch?
Follow the steps below for installing VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro on Debian 9 in order.
First, download the VMware Workstation 14.1.1.bundle file and then start Terminal on the Debian 9 desktop.
Switch to Root access by first executing the su command on the terminal. Then, run sudo apt-get update.
After updating the necessary applications for Debian 9, clear the Terminal screen with the clear command and proceed to the next step.
To install the necessary dependencies for VMware Workstation on Debian 9, run the command sudo apt install gcc build-essential -y.
On the terminal screen, you can view the files in the current location with the ls command. To change the permissions of the VMware Workstation.bundle file, execute the following command.
chmod a+x VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle
You can now start installing VMware Workstation. To start the VMware installation in Debian 9.3, execute the following command.
After VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro installation begins, accept the license agreement and click on the Next button.
If you want VMware Workstation to check for updates at startup, select Yes and click Next.
By participating in the VMware customer experience development program, you can support VMware substantially. Continue to install VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro by selecting Yes as shown below.
Specify the user who can access the Shared VMs folder here and click on the Next button.
Leave the location of the Shared VMs folder as default and click Next.
If you have purchased VMware Workstation 14 Pro, enter your license key in this step and click on the Next button. If you want to try the VMware Workstation program, click on the Next button by skipping the License Key field.
To install VMware Workstation 14.1.1 Pro on Debian 9.3, click the Install button.
Wait while VMware Workstation is installing.
After VMware installation is complete, run VMware Workstation 14 Pro as root. Go to Root with the su command at the terminal and type your Root password.
Next, start the program with the vmware command.
To use the VMware Workstation virtualization program free of charge for 30 days, select I want to try VMware Workstation 14 for 30 days and click the OK button.
Close the VMware Workstation information window and continue with the next step.
