How to Install VMware Tools in Debian 9.3 on VMware Workstation 14?
Let’s briefly explain what is VMware Tools and what does it do. VMware Tools is a program that enables the created virtual machine to use the hardware resources of the physical computer. When VMware Tools is installed, you can use the virtual machine more efficiently. For example, you can use the virtual machine in full-screen mode and exchange files with the host computer.
You can copy files from the physical computer to the virtual computer with the Drag and Drop method. As another example, you can run and use USB 3.0 devices on a virtual machine.

How to Install VMware Tools for Debian 9.3 Stretch Virtual Machine?
After you have installed Debian 9 on VMware Workstation 14, follow the steps below to install the VMware Tools, respectively.
Run the Debian virtual machine on VMware Workstation, click VM on the VMware menu, and then click Install VMware Tools.
Double click on the VMwareTools.tar.gz file.
After you open the VMware Tools folder, click the Extract button.
Open the VMware-Tools-Distrib folder.
To open Terminal in the folder, click Open in Terminal.
To start the installation of VMware Tools for Debian, execute the following commands in order on the Terminal.
- Type in your root password.
- Use the ls command to view the files in the folder.
- .Execute the command ./vmware-install.pl.
- Type Yes to start the installation and press Enter.
- Complete the Debian virtual machine VMware Tools installation by answering questions again.
To continue installing VMware Tools, answer the questions as shown below.
After successfully completing the installation of VMware Tools for Debian 9.3, execute the following command to restart the virtual machine.
shutdown -r now
After restarting the Debian 9.3 virtual machine, you can use the virtual machine in full-screen mode.
