In this article, we will set up a virtual machine for the operating systems to be used on VMware ESXi 6.7/6.5.
How to Create a New Virtual Machine in VMware ESXi 6.7/VMware ESXi 6.5?
To create a new virtual machine for Windows 7 on VMware ESXi 6.7/6.5, follow these steps in order.
Run the VMware ESXi 6.5/6.7 server and connect to the server by typing the IP address in the Internet Explorer address line. On the VMware ESXi login screen, type your username and password as shown below and click on the Log in button.
The first boot view of VMware ESXi is as follows. To create a virtual machine, click Virtual Machines from the options in the left pane.
In the Virtual Machines window, click Create / Register VM.
To create a new virtual machine after the New Virtual Machine window opens, select Create a new virtual machine and click on the Next button.
Type the name of the operating system you are going to run, and click Next when you have configured the Guest OS Family and Guest OS Version sections.
By default, DataStore1 will be selected because a physical disk is installed on the VMware ESXi server. Click the Next button to proceed to the next step.
You can configure the virtual machine created on VMware ESXi in the Customize Settings window. For example, to install the operating system on a virtual machine, you can add the ISO file from CD/DVD Drive 1.
The summary information of the Windows 7 virtual machine is shown below. You can close the window by clicking on the Finish button.
After creating the virtual machine on VMware ESXi 6.7/6.5, click on the virtual machine.
Start the virtual machine by clicking Power on. You can also open the console screen by clicking on the Windows Logo as below.
The virtual machine turned on, but an operating system setup did not start. Because we did not add an ISO file to the virtual machine.
