How to Install VirtualBox Extension Pack in Debian 9?
Installing guest extensions for the Debian 9 virtual machine will increase the performance of the virtual machine, and you can use the virtual machine screen resolution as Full Screen. Also, after installing guest additions, you can exchange files between the physical computer and the virtual machine.

In this article, we will install the Guest Additions plugin for the VirtualBox Debian 9 virtual machine. Installation of Guest Additions in Linux environments may vary.
How to Install Guest Additions in Debian 9.3 Virtual Machine in Oracle VM VirtualBox?
Follow the steps below to install Extension Pack on the Debian 9 virtual machine running on VirtualBox.
If you run the Debian 9 virtual machine on VirtualBox as full screen, you will have the same problem as below. Therefore Guest Additions are required.
From the VirtualBox menu, click on Devices and from the menu opened select Insert Guest Additions CD image.
In the window that opens, click Run.
As shown in the image below, the Guest Additions installation could not be started automatically on Debian. Click the OK button to close the window.
Go to the VBox_GAs_5.2.6 added to the virtual machine and click on the “Open as Root” option.
Type your root password and click on the Authenticate button.
To open the terminal in the location, click the Right button / Open in Terminal.
Once the terminal is turned on, you can use the “ls” command to view files in the media. In /media/cdrom0#, type sh VBoxLinuxAdditions.run and press Enter.
The Guest Additions installation for Debian 9 did not start properly because you need to install the necessary packages as you see in the image below.
Open the terminal on your desktop.
To install the required packages, add the Debian 9 ISO image to the virtual machine.
Use the command “su –” on the terminal, then type your root password and press Enter. Next, apply the apt update command.
In the image below you can see that you need to attach the Debian 9 ISO image!
Now, type the apt upgrade command and press Enter. The setup informs you that it will use additional space and press Yes (Y) to confirm and press Enter.
Wait while the necessary packages are installing.
In this step, type apt install build-essential module-assistant dkms and press Enter.
Type Y for the question Do you want to continue and press Enter.
Wait while the installation is in progress.
And finally, apply the m-a prepare command.
After installing the necessary packages for the Debian 9 virtual machine, you can proceed installing the Guest Additions.
Once again, open CDROM0 as Root.
To start Debian 9 Guest Additions setup, run sh VBoxLinuxAdditions.run.
As you can see in the image below, this time the Guest Additions installation for Debian 9 has been successfully completed.
To restart the Debian 9 virtual machine, execute shutdown -r now.
After restarting the virtual machine, you can resize the virtual machine as follows.
Also, you can now use the Debian 9 virtual machine as Full Screen.
