In the previous article, we installed Ubuntu 18.04 with the VMware Workstation virtualization program. You can access Ubuntu 18.04 installation with VMware from here.
In this article, we will install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS step by step using the Oracle VM VirtualBox virtualization program.
How to Install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on Windows 10 using VirtualBox?
To install Ubuntu 18.04 with VirtualBox step by step, follow the steps below.
Open the Oracle VM VirtualBox and click the New button to create a new virtual machine for Ubuntu 18.04. In the virtual machine creation window, specify the virtual machine name in the Name section and the RAM value in the Memory Size section.
Next, select the Create a virtual hard disk now option to create a virtual disk for Ubuntu 18.04 and click on the Create button.
Storing the virtual machine on a different HDD is influential in terms of performance. After you specify the Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine disk size as 20 GB, click the Create button.
After creating the virtual machine for Ubuntu 18.04, open the settings and remove the Floppy option.
In the Processor section, check Enable PAE/NX.
Configure the video memory of the virtual machine to 128 MB.
Click Storage and then Empty. In the Attributes section, click on Optical Drive to add the Ubuntu 18.04 ISO file to the virtual machine.
Run the Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine.
Starting Ubuntu 18.04 installation on VirtualBox…
Click Install Ubuntu to start the installation.
Configure your keyboard layout and click the Continue button.
Select the Minimal installation option and click the Continue button.
If you are installing the Ubuntu on the virtual machine, continue the installation by selecting Erase disk and install Ubuntu.
Click the Continue button to confirm the changes on the disk.
Continue by choosing the region you live in.
Configure your user account information for Ubuntu 18.04 and click Continue.
Wait while installing Ubuntu 18.04 on VirtualBox…
After successfully installing Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, proceed to the next step to install Guest Additions.
How to Install Guest Additions on Ubuntu 18.04?
Once you have set up a virtual machine on VirtualBox, you need to install the Guest Additions software. After you have installed Guest Additions, you can transfer files between the virtual machine and the host computer. You can also use the virtual machine in full-screen mode.
To install Guest Additions on Ubuntu 18.04, first click on Devices from the virtual machine menu and then click Insert Guest Additions CD image.
Continue by clicking the Run button in the following info window.
Type your root password and click on the Authenticate button.
After you complete the Guest Additions installation on Ubuntu 18.04, restart the virtual machine.
You can now use the Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine as a full screen.
