How to Install Debian 9 in VirtualBox on Windows 10?
Debian is an open-source project and is a totally free operating system and has more than 51,000 applications. You can install the Debian operating system on your physical computer, and you can install and use it on your computer using different virtualization programs.
Debian 9 “Stretch” was released on June 17, 2017. The most beautiful feature of Debian 9 is that it now supports UEFI.

In this article, we will install the Debian 9.3 operating system step by step using the Oracle VM VirtualBox virtualization program.
How to Install Debian 9.3 Stretch on VirtualBox Virtual Machine?
If you have not installed VirtualBox before, you can browse the VirtualBox Setup on Windows 10 operating system. After installing Oracle VM VirtualBox, let’s install Debian 9.3 Stretch.
Follow the steps below for installing Debian 9.3 on Oracle VM VirtualBox.
First open the Oracle VM VirtualBox program and click the New button to create a new virtual machine for Debian 9.
Type the virtual machine name and select the version.
You can set the size of 4 GB RAM for Debian 9 on VirtualBox. Once you have set the RAM value, click on the Next button.
To create a hard disk for the Debian 9 virtual machine, select Create a virtual hard disk now and click the Create button.
Select VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image) for the virtual hard disk file type and click Next.
For Debian 9 virtual machine performance, configure the hard disk structure as Fixed Size.
Store the hard disk file in a different location. Using an external hdd will increase the performance of the virtual machine. After configuring the Debian 9.3 virtual machine hard disk file location, click on the Create button.

Before giving power to the Debian 9 virtual machine, open the virtual machine settings. To add the Debian 9.3 ISO file, click the Right Button / Settings on the virtual machine.
In the Debian 9 settings window, click Storage in the left pane, select Empty, and then click on the CD/DVD symbol and select Choose Virtual Optical Disk File.
Select the Debian 9.3.0 AMD64 ISO file and click on the OK button.
After adding the ISO image to the virtual machine, power on the Debian 9 virtual machine. Once the virtual machine starts running, you will see the BOOT Menu as shown below.
On the Debian GNU/Linux Boot menu, press Enter on the Graphical Install option.
Select your system language for the Debian 9 virtual machine and click the Continue button.
Select the region you live in and click Continue to continue Debian 9.3 installation.
Select your keyboard layout and click Continue.
Installing additional components for Debian 9.3…
Type a hostname for this virtual machine.
Leave this step blank and click Continue.
Type your root password and click Continue.
Type a username for the Debian operating system user account and proceed with the installation.
Type your username again and click Continue.
Set a password for your user account.
Configure your regional time zone and click Continue to continue Debian 9 installation.
For Debian 9 virtual machine hard disk configuration, select Guided – use entire disk and click the Continue button.
Select the hard disk of Debian virtual machine.
Select All files in one partition (recommended for new users) and click the Continue button.
To finish the disk configuration and write the changes to disk, select the Finish partitioning and write changes to disk option and click the Continue button.
Select Yes and click Continue.
Wait while the setup is formatting the disk of Debian 9 virtual machine.
In the Package manager window, select No to skip the additional CD/DVD scan and click the Continue button.
Continue Debian 9 installation by selecting Yes for the network mirror configuration.
Select the Debian archive country and click Continue.
Choose tfp.us.debian.org as it is a good idea to select this address and continue with the installation.
Click the Continue button to skip the proxy setting.

Getting the required software…
If you want to send your statistics to Debian developers, you can choose Yes. If you do not, select No and click Continue.
In this step you can select the software you want to install. In this article, select the Cinnamon option to install the Debian 9.3 Cinnamon software and click Continue.
Wait while the software is retrieving…
Select Yes to install the GRUB boot loader and click Continue.
Select the disk to install the GRUB boot loader.
After successfully completing the installation of VirtualBox Debian 9, click the Continue button to restart the virtual machine.
From the GRUB menu, press the Enter button on Debian GNU/Linux.
Type your username and password and click on the Log In button.
