How to Install Wine on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?
First of all, let’s briefly discuss what Wine is and what it does. Wine is a free program that allows you to run Windows applications or programs on Linux based operating systems developed by WineHQ.
You can install and use Windows (.exe /.msi) software on Linux systems with the Wine (Wine Is Not an Emulator) program. After installing Wine 3.4 on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS in this article, we will install Notepad ++ for the use of Wine.
How to Install Wine 3.4 in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver?
The codename of Ubuntu 18.04 is Bionic Beaver and is currently in Beta. Ubuntu 18.04 Stable will be released on April 26, 2018.
Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is a lot more powerful than Ubuntu 17.10 and others.
First, open the Terminal at your desktop and go to Root access with the sudo su command. Next, follow the steps below for installing Wine 3.4 on Ubuntu 18.04.
- If your system is 64 Bit, use the following command in Terminal to enable 32 bit architecture.
- sudo dpkg –add-architecture i386
- wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/Release.key
- sudo apt-key add Release.key
- sudo apt-add-repository ‘deb http://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ xenial main’
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install –install-recommends winehq-devel
After running the above commands in Terminal in order, Wine 3.4’s Development version will be installed!
