How to Install GNS3 VM 2.1.3 on Ubuntu 17.10?
The GNS3 VM is a Linux-based virtual machine. One of the main reasons for using the GNS3 VM is to use Cisco IOU images on GNS3. With the GNS3 VM you can use Cisco Layer 2 Switches and Cisco Layer 3 Switches.

The GNS3 VM also runs on Linux-based operating systems. In this article, we will demonstrate how to install GNS3 VM on Linux/Ubuntu 17.10 and how to configure GNS3 VM on Ubuntu.

How to Install GNS3 VM 2.1.3 on VMware Workstation 14 Pro in Ubuntu 17.10?
The latest version of the GNS3 VM is 2.1.3. Follow the steps below for installing GNS3 VM 2.1.3 on Ubuntu.
First, download VMware Workstation 14 Pro for Linux. To download VMware Workstation, go to https://www.vmware.com/products/workstation-pro/workstation-pro-evaluation.html.
Go to the GNS3 website and click on the DOWNLOAD button at the VMWARE WORKSTATION section as shown below to download the GNS3 VM.
After installing GNS3 VM, browse the GNS3 Compatible Cisco IOS Download to download a GNS3 compatible Cisco Router.
After downloading the programs required for using GNS3 VM 2.1.3 on Linux/Ubuntu 17.10, open the Terminal on the desktop and execute the following commands to install VMware Workstation 14 Pro on Ubuntu.
chmod +x VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle
After installing VMware Workstation, click File / Open to import the GNS3 VM 2.1.3.ova file onto VMware Workstation.
Go to the location of the GNS3 VM.ova file and select the file. Click the Open button to start the GNS3 VM import process.
Leave the default location to import the GNS3 VM and click the Import button.
Wait while importing GNS3 VM 2.1.3.
Run the GNS3 program while the GNS3 VM import process is in progress, and in the Setup Wizard window, select Run as topologies in an isolated and standard VM and click on the Next button.
Once the GNS3 VM has been imported, start the virtual machine.

Once the GNS3 and GNS3 VM connections have been set up, select VMware (Recommend) from the Virtualization software section and click on the Next button.
The GNS3 Setup Wizard summary information is as follows. Click the Finish button to close the window.
Finally, add the Cisco Router c7200 onto the GNS3 VM and run the Router. The connection of GNS3 with GNS3 VM will be made on Ubuntu 17.10 as below.
