The process to add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3 requires manually adding Switch IOS since GNS3 does not have a manageable Layer 2 layer switch. Cisco exam candidates must apply the GNS3 Layer 2 Switch addition to gain experience in Switching.
To add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3, you first need to download the IOS software. In GNS3 we can not use all the features provided by the physical switches in the Layer 2 Switch configuration steps. Because the GNS3 program can impose some restrictions while simulating Switches.
Some of the operations that we can do after the process to add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3 are; VLAN, VTP, STP are network signatures.

How to Configure Layer 2 Switch in GNS3?
First, download the vIOS-L2.vmdk Switch IOS to your computer from the button below to add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3.
After downloading the Switch IOS file from above, run the GNS3 program. Then click on the Edit menu.
From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
In the General Preferences window, click on the Qemu VMs option under the QEMU tab.
In the Qemu VM Templates window, click the New button.
In the Qemu VM name window, give a name to add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3.
In the Qemu binary and memory window, if your operating system is 64bit, select the option below.
Click on the Next button.
Select the New Image option and click the Browse button.
In the window that opens, select the vIOS-L2.vmdk file you downloaded and click the Open button.
Click the Yes button to copy to the default image folder.
After displaying the file location you have downloaded, click the Finish button to finish the process.
In the Qemu VM Templates window, you can see that the process to add Layer 2 Switch in GNS3 has been successful.
From the left part of the GNS3, right click on the Layer 2 Switch.
Click Configure template.
In the Layer 2 Switch configuration window, you can select the Switches group from the Category section.
Click the Browse button to change the Layer 2 Switch symbol.
You can choose a symbol as shown in the image below.
Click the OK button to save the settings.
Drag and drop the Layer 2 Switch to the work area.
To increase the number of interfaces on the switch, click the right button configure.
From the Network tab, you can add interfaces to the Cisco Layer 2 Switch.
After double-clicking on the Cisco Layer 2 Switch, you can see that the process is successful by applying the show vlan brief command.
