What is TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol)?

With TFTP, there is no security for file transfer, but it is a fast file transfer protocol. TFTP does not have an authentication process, such as an FTP protocol. The purpose of the TFTP protocol is file transfer only. Also, some systems or devices are needed for initial configuration.

TFTP transfers data over the network using the UDP protocol and uses the UDP 69 port. The TFTP protocol does not have features such as file listing, file deletion, file name change, and checking provided by other file transfer protocols.

Because the Trivial File Transfer Protocol works with the UDP protocol, it does not check the file integrity during file transfer.

If the Trivial File Transfer Protocol was working with the TCP port, it would check the file integrity through the handshake method during file transfer.

After briefly explaining what TFTP is, let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of TFTP.
