In the past days, the full version of Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) was released.

As you know, VMware Workstation/Player is a virtualization program that allows you to set up and run many virtual machines on your computer. VMware Workstation/Player setup is simple for both Windows users and Linux users.

If you try to setup VMware or another program on some versions of Linux distributions, you may encounter installation errors due to system errors. So, by following our article, you can easily install VMware on Ubuntu 18.04/10.

NOTE: You can also run VMware Workstation 15.1.0 Pro on Ubuntu by following the steps in this article.

How to Setup VMware Workstation 14/15 Pro in Ubuntu 18.04/18.10/19.04

If you have not installed Ubuntu 18.04/10 before, you can check out the Ubuntu 18.04 Installation with VMware. After installing it, follow the instructions below to setup VM 14 Pro on your system.

The latest version of VMware is 15.1.0. Installing VM Workstation 15.1.0 Pro on Linux is the same as the following steps.

   Step 1

First, visit https://www.vmware.com/tr/products/workstation-pro/workstation-pro-evaluation.html and download VM 14 Pro for Linux to your computer.

Before you setup VM software, use the command sudo apt-get update in Terminal to update the package list.

sudo apt-get update

   Step 3

To build Linux development tools, use the sudo apt install gcc build-essential command.

sudo apt install gcc build-essential

 
sudo apt install gcc build-essential

   Step 4

After setting it up, go to the Downloads folder and open the Terminal. In order to install VMware on the 18.04/18.10 versions, execute the following commands in order.

chmod +x VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle
sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle

 
sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle

   Step 5

At the setup window, accept the license agreement and click Next.

Accept the OVF Tool license agreement and click Next.

Select Yes to check for updates and click Next.

Select Yes to participate in the VMware customer experience program, and then click Next.

Type your Linux username and click Next.

Leave the location where virtual machines will be installed by default and click on the Next button.

If you are using HTTPS (443) port on your system, you can set the port value in this step. After configuring the port setting, click on the Next button.

If you have purchased it, in this step, type License Key and click Next.

Click the Install button to start the setup of VM Workstation 14 Pro on Linux.

From the Ubuntu search menu, find the VM Workstation program and run it.

To try VM Workstation free for 30 days, select I want to try VM Workstation 14 for 30 days and click OK.

How to Setup VMware Workstation on Linux

You can use the following commands to install VM Workstation 14.1.3 on Ubuntu 18.10. If you get the GCC7 error, you can install the dependent package using sudo apt-get install gcc-7 at the terminal and run it on Linux.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install gcc build-essential
sudo apt-get install gcc-7
chmod +x VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.3-9474260.x86_64.bundle
sudo ./VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.3-9474260.x86_64.bundle
