How to Install VMware Workstation 14/15 Pro on Debian 9 (9.9)
VMware Workstation software can be deployed on different platforms as well as on Linux-based operating systems.
Before installing VMware software on a Linux operating system, you must download the .bundle installation file from the VMware website to your computer. Click here to download VM software for Debian.
Previously, we installed VMware Workstation Player 14/15 Pro on Windows 10 and Ubuntu operating systems.
In this article, we will configure the VMware 14/15 Pro virtualization program on the Debian 9 Stretch operating system.
NOTE: You can run the VMware 15.1.0 Pro on Debian 9.9 by following the steps in this article.
How to Setup VMware Workstation Pro in Debian
Follow the instructions below to setup VM Workstation 14/15 Pro on your Linux PC.
First, download the .bundle file and then start Terminal on the desktop.
Switch to root by applying the su command on the terminal. Then, apply sudo apt-get update.
After updating the necessary applications, clear the Terminal screen with the clear command and proceed to the next step.
To build the necessary dependencies, run the command sudo apt install gcc build-essential -y.
On the terminal screen, you can view the files in the current location with the ls command. To change the permissions of the .bundle file, execute the following command.
chmod a+x VMware-Workstation-Full-14.1.1-7528167.x86_64.bundle
You can now start installing the virtual machine software. To start the VMware setup, execute the following command.
After VMware 14/15 Pro setup begins, accept the license agreement and click on the Next button.
If you want to check for updates on startup, select Yes and click Next.
By participating in the customer experience development program, you can support the manufacturer. Continue the setup by selecting the Yes option as in the image below.
Specify the user who can access the Shared VMs folder here and click on the Next button.
Leave the location of the Shared VMs folder as default and click Next.
If you purchased the virtualization program, enter your license key in this step and click Next. If you want to try the program, leave the License Key field blank and click Next.
Click Install to setup VM Workstation 14/15 Pro on Debian 9.9.
Wait while installing the virtual machine program.
After the installation is complete, run the program as Root. Switch to Root with the water command in the terminal and enter your root password.
Next, start the program with the vmware command.
To use the virtualization program for 30 days free, select I want to try VM 14/15 for 30 days and click OK.
Close the information window and continue to the next step.
