How to Create Virtual Machine on VMware Workstation 15/14/12
Before installing an operating system on VMware Workstation, you need to create a new virtual machine. Creating a virtual machine on VMware consists of easy and simple steps.
Before you create a new virtual machine on VMware Workstation, you need to do VMware Workstation 12 Setup or VMware Workstation 14 Setup. If you are using a Linux-based Ubuntu / Linux Mint / Debian operating system, you can access the relevant articles from the links below.
Open the VMware Workstation 15/14/12 program and click File.
From the options opened, click New Virtual Machine.
Select Custom (Advanced) to configure more advanced settings in the New Virtual Machine Wizard window.
Click the Next button.
Workstation 12.0 in the Choose the VM Hardware Compatibilitywindow is selected by default because VMware Workstation 12 Pro installed. Once configuring VMware hardware compatibility, continue by pressing the Next button.
There are 3 options in the Guest Operating System Installation window.
1. Installer Disc
To use the CD/DVD media to install the operating system on the VM, you need to select the Installer Disc option.
2. Installer disc image file (iso)
To use the ISO file to install the operating system on the VM, you need to select the Installer Disc Image File option.
3. I will install the operating system later
If you want to create the VM first and then install the operating system, you can continue by selecting option 3.
Select the option you have selected and click on the Next button.
In the Select a Guest Operating System window, select the operating system you are going to install and click Next to continue.
In the Name the Virtual Machine window, type a name for the virtual machine, select the location where the virtual machine will be located, and click Next.
In the Firmware Type window, you can choose the operating system’s boot configuration BIOS or UEFI. By default, the BIOS option is selected. Select BIOS and click the Next button.
In the Processor Configuration window, configure the number of processors and the number of cores according to the hardware specifications of your computer and click on the Next button.
In the Memory for the Virtual Machine window, select the RAM size you want to assign to the virtual machine and click Next.
In the Network Type window, you can configure the network settings of the virtual machine. Changes you make in VMware’s Virtual Network Editor interface will affect network settings. For VMware virtual machine network settings, you can look at the following articles.
Select Use network address translation (NAT) by default and click Next.
In the Select I/O Controller Types window, select the LSI Logic SAS option selected by default and click Next.
In the Select a Disk Type window, select SCSI (Recommended) for the type of disk and click Next.
In the Select a Disk window, select Create a new virtual disk and click Next.
There are 2 options in the Specify Disk Capacity window. These;
1. Store virtual disk as a single file option; the disk file of the virtual machine will be saved as an entire file.
2. Split virtual disk into multiple files option; the disk of the virtual machine will be stored by dividing into pieces.
If you select Allocate all disk space nowoption, on your disk will be used disk space as the size of disk space allocated for the virtual machine. This option is an important criterion for the VM performance.
Select one of the two options and click Next to continue the steps to create the virtual machine in VMware.
In the Specify Disk File window, type a name for the virtual disk of the virtual machine you created and click Next.
If there is a setting you want to change in the above steps in the Ready to Create VM window, click the Customize Hardware button and configure your settings.
Once you have successfully completed the steps for setting up a new virtual system on VMware Workstation 15/14/12, you can start the operating system installation by adding the CD/DVD or ISO file to the virtual pc.
