In this article, after creating a new virtual machine using VirtualBox, we will install the Windows Vista ISO file by adding it to the virtual machine. In addition, by installing the virtual machine Guest Additions, we will enable the drag and drop feature between the Windows Vista virtual machine and the physical computer and be able to use VM as full screen.
How to Install Windows Vista using VirtualBox?
After installing VirtualBox on the Windows 10 operating system, install a new virtual machine and then download the Windows Vista ISO file from the bottom of the article to your computer.
Then, follow the steps to install Windows Vista virtual machine setup in order.
Run the Oracle VM VirtualBox virtualization program and click the New button below to create a new virtual machine.
When the virtual machine creation window opens, specify the name and version of the virtual machine you are going to install. Then click the Next button to continue.
For a Windows Vista virtual machine, it would be sufficient to specify a 2 GB (2048) RAM size. After setting the virtual machine RAM value, click on the Next button.
To create a new virtual hard disk for the virtual machine, select Create a virtual hard disk now and click the Create button.
As the hard disk file type, select VirtualBox Disk Image (VDI) as recommended by VirtualBox and click on the Next button.
For the virtual machine disk performance, it is a good idea to create the hdd size as Fixed. Configure the Windows Vista virtual machine HDD size as Fixed Size and click the Next button.
Also, storing the virtual machine HDD file on an external USB HDD will increase performance. Continue by clicking the Create button to create the HDD size as 25 GB.
Creating a Virtual Hard Disk on a Windows Vista virtual machine…
After creating the virtual machine for Windows Vista, click on the Right Button / Settings on the virtual machine.
In the Windows Vista Settings window, click Storage in the left pane, and then click Choose Virtual Optical Disk File to add the Windows Vista ISO file that you downloaded from the Optical Drive.
Select the ISO file for Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 32-64bit operating system and click the Open button.
Close the Windows Vista settings window by clicking on the OK button.
Click the Start button to start the virtual machine setup.
Press Enter on the Windows Vista x64 Setup option on the Windows Boot Manager.
Select the Windows Vista operating system language setting, time format, and keyboard layout, then click Next.
Click Install Now to start the installation.
Select the operating system version you want to install and click Next.
To accept the Windows Vista operating system license agreement, select I accept the license terms and click Next to proceed with the installation.
Click Custom (advanced).
Format the hard disk you created for the virtual machine, and create a new partition. Then click the Next button.
Preparing operating system files…
After copying the Windows Vista files, the virtual machine will restart.
Do not press any key on the following screen and wait for a while.
Completing Windows Vista virtual machine setup…
Type your user name and click on the Next button.
Type your computer name for the Windows Vista virtual machine and click Next to continue the installation.
You can open Windows updates automatically in the following window.
Specify your operating system time zone and click Next.
After successfully completing the installation of Windows Vista using VirtualBox on Windows 10, click Finish to continue.

How to Install Guest Additions to Windows Vista Virtual Machine?
After installing the virtual machine Guest Additions on VirtualBox, you can use the virtual machine as a full screen and also share files between your computer and the virtual machine.
Follow the steps below to install Guest Additions to Windows Vista.
To set up Windows Vista Guest Additions, click on the Devices menu and then click on Insert Guest Additions CD image…
After the Guest Additions CD image is imported, click Run VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe to run the application.
In the Oracle VM VirtualBox Guest Additions setup window, click Next button.
Leave the location as default and click Next.
Click on the Install button to start installing Guest Additions to Windows Vista.
Check Always trust software from “Oracle Corporation” option and click Install.
After completing the Guest Additions installation for Windows Vista, restart the virtual machine.
After restarting the virtual machine, you can use it as a full screen.
