How to Setup Linux Mint 19.1 on Oracle VM VirtualBox in Windows 10

Linux Mint is an operating system based on Debian and Ubuntu developed in France country released in 2006.

The latest version of the Linux Mint operating system is 19.1. In this article, we will install Linux Mint operating system on Windows 10 using the Oracle VM VBox virtualization program.

Before you install Linux Mint with Oracle software, download the it from here.

In our previous articles, we installed Oracle VM VirtualBox on Ubuntu.

How to Install Mint 18/19 in Oracle VirtualBox VM

Follow the steps below for setting up Linux Mint 18/19 on Oracle VM VBox.

You can also install Linux Mint 19 on Oracle VBox by following the stages below. The Linux Mint 18 and 19 installation steps are the same.

   Step 1

Open the VBox program and click the New button to create a new virtual machine.

Type a name for the VM, and then click Next button after you have selected the operating system version.

Assign a 4 GB RAM value for the VM and click on the Next button.

For VM performance, select the Fixed Size option and click on the Next button.

Also, store the virtual hard disk file on an external disk. VM performance will increase if virtual machines’ disk files run on an external disk.

You can allocate 20 GB of disk space. Once you have configured the disk space, click on the Create button.

After creating a new virtual machine, click on the Right Button / Settings on the virtual machine.

On the settings window, click Storage in the left pane and then Empty. Click on the CD/DVD symbol to add the ISO file and click Choose Virtual Optical Disk File from the option opened.

Select the ISO file and click the Open button.

On the Linux Boot screen, press the Enter button as follows.

Wait while starting the operating system.

Double click on the ISO setup image file as in the image below.

Select the operating system language and click the Continue button.

If you want to install third-party applications, click Continue button by selecting Install third-party software for graphics and Wi-Fi hardware, Flash, MP3 and other media.

If you are installing Mint for the first time, you should select the Erase disk and install option. If you want to install Linux OS on the existing disk, you can continue with Something Else option.

To do a clean installation, select Erase disk and install Linux Mint and click the Install Now button.

Continue by clicking the Continue button in the Write the changes to disks window.

Select the region you live in and click the Continue button.

The steps to setup Linux Mint 18/19 in VBox on Windows 10 has successfully completed. Restart the system by clicking the Restart Now button.
