How to Clone Virtual Machine in VirtualBox on Windows 10? – When using the Oracle VM VirtualBox virtualization program, you can save time by replicating a virtual machine with the Clone operation.
How to Clone Virtual Machine in VirtualBox on Windows 10?
Before cloning a VM in VirtualBox, you need to properly configure your virtual machine’s system, and then you can create multiple virtual machines with the Clone action. Instead of installing a new operating system by installing a new virtual machine in VirtualBox, you can easily duplicate an operating system with Clone.
After cloning a virtual machine, the SID number may conflict with the user account. Therefore, you may need to delete the existing user and create a new account again. If you want the SID number to change automatically, you need to apply the Sysprep operation in Windows operating system and then clone this virtual machine.
Cloning a virtual machine installed on VirtualBox takes several steps. When cloning the virtual machine, make sure you have enough memory on your disk.
How to Duplicate Virtual Machine in VirtualBox using Clone?
You can use the Clone process to copy or duplicate virtual machines that you use in VirtualBox. You can also duplicate a virtual machine by copying files from the location where the virtual machine is installed, and then pasting it to another location.
Follow the steps below to clone virtual machine in VirtualBox in order.
Open the Oracle VM VirtualBox program and click the Right Key / Clone option on an installed virtual machine.
Type in a name for the virtual machine to be cloned and click on the Next button, selecting Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards.
What is Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards?
There can never be two computers with the same MAC address on a network. This is also true for a virtual environment. When cloning a virtual machine, you need to select the Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards option to refresh the MAC address.
There are two clone types in VirtualBox. These;
Full Clone:The cloned virtual machine is not affected by the host machine. For example, if you configured the Windows 7 virtual machine as Full Clone and later deleted it, the cloned virtual machine will not be deleted.
Linked Clone: The cloned virtual machine is affected by the main virtual machine. From the above example, the main virtual machine will also be deleted when the cloned virtual machine is deleted.
Select the Full Clone option as shown below and click the Clone button.

After cloning the virtual machine in VirtualBox, let’s control the MAC addresses of the host virtual machine and the cloned virtual machine.
Open the Windows 7 Clone settings and click Network in the left pane and look at the MAC address on the right panel under Adapter 1.
When you open the main virtual machine settings and check the MAC address in the same way, you can see the MAC address change from the following image.
Finally, you can see from the following image that it works successfully when the cloned virtual machine is running.
