With the release of Kali Linux 2019.2, the Kernel version upgraded to 4.19.28. To download the Kali ISO file, visit

Kali Linux installation is exactly the same as Debian installation, because Kali is an operating system built on Debian.

In this article, we will install Kali 2019.2 on a virtual machine.

How to Run Kali Linux 2019.2 in a Virtual Machine

After downloading the Kali ISO file, prepare a Bootable Flash Memory. Or create a new virtual machine for installing Kali Linux on a virtualization program such as VMwareVirtualBox. Then, mount the downloaded ISO file to the virtual machine or PC.

Finally, follow the steps below to install Kali Linux step by step.

   Step 1

After you boot your system with the ISO file, press Enter on the Graphical Install option as in the image below to start the installation.

Select the system view language for your Kali system and click Continue.

Select your location and click Continue.

Select your keyboard layout and click Continue.

Wait while installing additional components.

Enter your hostname and click Continue.

After typing and verifying your root password, click the Continue button.

Configure your time zone and continue.

Select Guided – use entire disk to install Kali Linux from scratch. If you are installing Kali on a Windows 10 computer, select Manual and click Continue.

Select your disk for Kali and click Continue.

In this step, if you want to keep all files on one partition according to your needs, select All files in one (recommended for new users) option and click Continue.

The following image summarizes the disk on which Kali Linux will to be installed. Select the Finish partitioning and write changes to disk option and click the Continue button.

Select Yes to confirm that the changes are written to the disk and click Continue.

Installing System

If you select No in this step, you will not be able to install programs from Kali repositories. In this step, we select No because we will manually configure Kali repos later.

Select Yes to continue installing Kali and click Continue.

Select Yes to install the GRUB boot loader and click Continue.

Select /dev/sda/ for GRUB boot loader installation and click Continue.

Wait while setting up the GRUB boot loader.

After the Kali installation is complete, click Finish and restart your system.

After your system restarts, press Enter on the Kali GNU/Linux option from the GRUB menu.

Type Root for the user name and type the password you set for the password, then click Sign In.
