How to Install Kali Linux 2020.1 with VMware Workstation 15.5
Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution that is used to control and solve the vulnerabilities on the network developed by the Offensive Security company.
Kali Linux operating system is a powerful operating system for security testing and network security. You can also use Kali Linux on a USB without installing it on your computer.
You can download the ISO file of Linux and burn it to a CD/DVD media and then start the installation by inserting the media into your computer’s CD/DVD RW device. Or, you can prepare a bootable USB Memory to install Kali Linux.
VMware Workstation is a popular and great virtualization software developed by VMware, and thanks to this software, you can install various operating systems on the virtual machine on your computer.
In our previous articles, we installed VMware and other Linux distributions;
Open VMware Workstation 14/15 Pro and click Create a new virtual machine to install Linux VM. Select Custom (advanced) in the new VM window and click the Next button.
Select Workstation 15.x for virtual machine compatibility and click Next. And continue by selecting the I will install the operating system later option in the next window.
Select the Linux / Other Linux 5.x or later kernel 64-bit option in the operating system selection window and click the Next button. In the next window, configure the location where you want to back up your virtual machine. For example; You can install it there by creating a new folder on your external hard drive.
Select 1 processor / 4 cores for Kali Linux virtual machine. The processor configuration for the virtual machine depends on the hardware features of your computer.
Configure a minimum of 4 GB RAM size to the VM and click Next.
Select NAT for the virtual machine network configuration and click the Next button. For more information about NAT connection in VMware Workstation, click here.
Select the LSI Logic option for the I/O controller and click the Next button.
Select SCSI for the virtual machine disk type and click Next.
To create a new kali virtual disk, select Create a new virtual disk and click Next.
Configure the 20 GB Hard Disk size for the virtual machine and also check the Store virtual disk as a single file option and then click the Next button.
Leave the virtual machine disk file name at default value and click Next.
After completing the steps to create a Kali virtual machine, click the Customize Hardware button.
Select the Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI option from the Processors section and then click on the CD/DVD device to add the ISO file to the virtual machine.
After adding the Kali ISO file to the virtual machine, click the Close button.
VM summary information is as follows. You can check your transactions from the window below. Click on the Finish button to proceed with the Kali installation.
After running the virtual pc, you can start the installation.
