How to Run Windows 8.1 on Hyper-V

With Hyper-V software, you can gain experience by installing operating systems such as Windows and Linux on your computer. For example, after you download a new Linux / Ubuntu distribution to your computer as an ISO file, you can create a new virtual machine with Hyper-V and install Ubuntu on it.

In this article, we will install Windows 8 / 8.1 operating system step by step with HyperV. If you do not have the Windows 8.1 image file, you can download it from the button at the bottom of the article.

How to Install Windows 8.1 on Virtual Machine

Follow the steps below to install Windows 8.1 step by step using Hyper-V Manager on Windows 10.

   Step 1

From the Windows menu, run Hyper-V Manager.

In Hyper-V Manager, click Virtual Machine from the Actions menu.

Creating a New Virtual Machine

   Step 3

Type a name for the Windows 8.1 virtual machine, and it recommends that you install the virtual machine to a different location. To do this, select the Store the virtual machine in a different location and click Next.

Select Generation 1 in the Generation menu and click Next.

Specify the amount of RAM for the Windows 8.1 virtual machine. If you want to set the RAM value dynamically, select Use Dynamic Memory for this virtual machine and click Next.

Since we do not define a network adapter for Hyper-V, click Next to skip this step.

You can set the Hard Disk size of the Windows 8.1 virtual machine to 40 GB.

You can add the downloaded Windows 8.1 ISO file by clicking the Browse button in the Installation Options window. After you have added the ISO file, click Next.
