What is Hyper-V Virtualization Technology?

In this article, we’ll describe the system requirements and how to install it on Windows 10 after you define Hyper-V.

What is Hyper-V Virtualization Technology?

What is Hyper-V?

With Hyper-V, a virtualization solution developed by Microsoft, you can install multiple virtual operating systems on a physical computer and use them all at the same time.

For example, using Hyper-V on a powerful desktop or laptop, you can run one or more of the Windows 7, Windows 8, or Linux operating system on the Windows 10 operating system you are using.

Or, you can install and run a Windows Server using this software on Windows 10 in a test environment.

Hyper-V is designed for 64-Bit processors and uses the hardware-based Hypervisor virtualization architecture. You must have a 64-bit processor to install it, otherwise, you will not be able to install if you have 32 processors.

However, when using this virtualization technology, you can install both 64-bit and 32-bit operating systems.

One thing to note is that it can only install on 64-bit supported operating systems. (For example; Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise editions)

Client Hyper-V

Now, let us explain the two main terms of Hyper-V virtualization technology.

You have seen the terms Client Hyper-V and Hyper-V Server in many sources on the Internet. The difference between them is both very large and very small. This platform builds only for Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 and also it is disabled by default.

If you will install it, your computer’s processor must be 64-bit, and it must also support SLAT support.

Hyper-V Server

This version is an operating system in its own right, which offer free of charge by Microsoft. For example, there is no user interface such as Windows 2008/2012/2016, and it performs with the help of commands.

In addition, we can simulate the Core operating system of the Windows Server family.

You can download the server version for free from Microsoft and install it as an operating system. You can also run multiple virtual computers with Hyper-V Server on the computer to install it. However, you must provide a remote connection to control virtual machines from the local or remote network.

After the definition of Client Hyper-V, let’s move on to the system requirements and installation of this program.

System Requirements

Before installing it on Windows 8x / 10 operating systems, you should review the system requirements. These requirements are;

  • 64 Bit Processor
  • 64 Bit Operating System
  • Processor SLAT Support
  • Minimum 4 GB RAM

If you meet the system requirements, you can install the Microsoft virtual machine program on your computer.

Client Hyper-V Installation

Installing Client Hyper-V on the Windows 10 operating system is quite simple and create in a few steps.

Follow the steps below for installation.

  • Click Control Panel / Programs and Features.
  • Click Turn Windows feature on or off.
  • In the Windows Properties window, select Hyper-V and click OK.
  • After the changes have applied, restart your computer.
