What is Hyper-V Virtualization Technology?

With Hyper-V, you can set up multiple virtual operating systems on a physical computer and use them all at the same time. For example, using Hyper-V on a desktop or laptop with powerful hardware, you can run one or more of Windows 7, Windows 8, or Linux operating systems on your Windows 10 operating system.

Or, you can install and run a Windows Server using Hyper-V on Windows 10 in a test environment.

Hyper-V has designed for 64-bit processors and uses a hardware-based Hypervisor virtualization architecture. You need to have the 64-bit processor for Hyper-V installation otherwise you will not be able to install if you have 32 processors.

However, when using Hyper-V virtualization technology, you can implement both 64-bit and 32-bit operating system installations.

One of the things to keep in mind is that Hyper-V can only be built on 64-bit supported operating systems. (Eg Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise editions)

What is Client Hyper-V Virtualization Technology?

After discussing what is Hyper-V, let’s explain the two main terms of Hyper-V virtualization technology.

In many sources on the Internet, you may have seen the Client Hyper-V and Hyper-V Server terms. We can say that the difference between them is both very large and very small. If we explain What is Client Hyper-V, it is a feature built only in Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 operating systems and disabled by default.

If you are using Hyper-V on a Windows 8x or Windows 10, then the program is called Client Hyper-V.

If you are performing a Client Hyper-V installation, your computer processor must be 64-bit and your processor must also support SLAT support.

What is Hyper-V Server Virtualization Technology?

After defining what is Client Hyper-V, let’s explain what is Hyper-V Server and what does it do.

Hyper-V Server is a stand-alone operating system offered free by Microsoft. For example, there is no user interface like Windows 2008/2012/2016 and the operations are done with the help of commands.

We can compare the Hyper-V Server to the Core operating system of the Windows Server family.

You can download Hyper-V Server free of charge from Microsoft and install it like an operating system. You can also use multiple virtual computers with Hyper-V Server on the computer to be installed. You can only control the Hyper-V Server from a local or remote network by providing a remote connection with the Hyper-V Manager console.

After defining what is Client Hyper-V, let’s move on the system requirements and setup of this program.

Client Hyper-V System Requirements

Before you install Hyper-V on Windows 8x/10 operating systems, you must meet the Client Hyper-V system requirements. These requirements include;

  • 64 Bit Processor
  • 64 Bit Operating System
  • Processor SLAT Support
  • Minimum 4 GB RAM

If you have the system requirements, you can install Client Hyper-V.

How to Install Client Hyper-V on Windows 10?

Installing Client Hyper-V on the Windows 10 operating system is quite simple and is consist of a few steps.

For Windows 10 Client Hyper-V installation, follow the steps below in order.
