How to Install GNS3 VM 2.1.9 on Ubuntu 18.04/18.10?
GNS3 VM is a Linux-based system that works with virtualization programs such as VirtualBox, or VMware Workstation, which can manage your Cisco Router IOS images from a single virtual machine, and at the same time is high performing.
You can use the GNS3 VM with Cisco IOU images. In our previous articles, we published articles about the GNS3 VM. On Windows, Linux and MacOS systems, you can browse the GNS3 VM installation articles from the following links.
Open VMware Workstation 14 and click File / Open to import the GNS3 VM 2.1.9.ova file to VMware.
Select the GNS3 VM 2.1.9.ova file located on the Ubuntu 18.04 desktop and click the Open button.
Click the Import button.
Wait while it is importing the GNS3 VM.
After importing GNS3 VM 2.1.9 to VMware Workstation 14, start the GNS3 program.
On GNS3, click Edit / Preferences. In the Preferences window, click on the GNS3 VM option, then click on Enable the GNS3 VM and finally on the OK button to wait for the GNS3 VM to open.
Starting GNS3 VM…
Wait while the GNS3 VM is booting.
To add a Cisco c7200 Router on the GNS3 VM, click on Dynamips / IOS routers, then click on the New button.
Selectthe Run this IOS router on the GNS3 VMoption and click on the Next button.
Click the Browse button.
Select the c7200 Router and click the Open button.
Click Yes to decompress the IOS image.
Continue by clicking the Next button after adding the IOS image.
Select the IOS Router’s platform and click on the Next button.
Specify the 512 MB RAM value for the c7200 IOS Router and click Next.
To add a GigabitEthernet or Serial Interface to the Cisco Router, select the interfaces in the empty slots below and click Next.
To make your processor to run the Cisco IOS Router more efficiently, set a new value by clicking the Idle-PC Finder button. After specifying the Idle-PC value, click the Finish button.
After adding the Cisco c7200 Router on GNS3 VM 2.1.9, you can check the IOS Router’s location from Server in the window below.
Add and run the Cisco Router you added to the GNS3 workspace. You can check the version of the Router IOS software with the show version command at the CLI command prompt as shown in the following image.
