How to Install GNS3 in Linux Mint Step by Step?
Follow the steps below for installing GNS3 on Linux Mint.
On the Linux Mint desktop, open the Terminal and execute the following command to add GNS3 to the Repository.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gns3/ppa
Press Enter to continue.
To update the Linux Mint software packages, run sudo apt-get update.
sudo apt-get update
To start installing GNS3 on Linux Mint, execute the following command and press Y key to continue installation and press Enter.
sudo apt-get install gns3-gui
If you want non-superusers to run the GNS3 program, choose Yes.
If you want to capture packets using the Wiresharkprogram of Non-superusers, continue with Yes. In this step, we continue with the No option because we do not want the non-superusers to perform packet analysis.
After installing GNS3 on Linux Mint 19/18, execute gns3command in Terminal to run the program.
How to Add Cisco IOS Images to GNS3 in Linux Mint?
Adding Cisco IOS to GNS3 is easy. Adding Cisco IOS images on Linux Mint is as simple as adding Cisco IOS to GNS3 on Windows operating systems.
To add Cisco IOSto GNS3 on Linux Mint, follow the steps below.
After opening the GNS3 program, in the Setup Wizard window, select Run the topologies on my computerand click on the Next button.
Make sure that the Host binding setting for GNS3 looks like the one below and wait while GNS3 is connected to the Local Server.
GNS3 has successfully connected to the Local Server and click Next to continue.
In the Import an appliance template file window, select the Add an IOS router using a real IOS image (supported by Dynamips) and click on the OK button.
To add a Cisco Router to the GNS3 on the Linux Mint, click on the Browse button in the IOS image window to define the location of the Cisco IOS image.
Select the Cisco Router c7200 IOS image and click the Open button.
After adding the Cisco Router, click on the Next button.
The Idle-PC value is set so that the Cisco Routersor Switcheson the GNS3 do not overload the computer’s processor. Click the Idle-PC finder button to determine the Cisco Router Idle-PC value to work on Linux Mint.
Create a new project on GNS3 and drag and drop your added Cisco Router to the workspace. Then, run the Router and check that the Cisco Router is running by opening the CLI command prompt.
