What is Dynamic Routing Protocol in Network? Types of Dynamic Routing Protocols

What is Dynamic Routing Protocol in Network?Dynamic Routing has a very different system than Static Routing. While Static Routes configure manually, Routers are configured once in the Dynamic Routing process.

What is Dynamic Routing Protocol in Network?

The Dynamic Routing is generated by the routing protocols automatically. It sends the routing table to other Routers on the network.

Dynamic Routing does not take a lot of time to be configured according to Static Route. Subnets connected to each Router in the network are configured. These Routers then share the routing table between themselves.

When there is an error on the network, the routes are recalculated and the Routers update the routing table. For example, when a router on the network fails, the other Routers will wait a certain amount of time and then remove that path by updating the routing tables.

When a new router adds to the network environment, the Router can easily join the network environment thanks to the Dynamic Routing protocol. As a result, you only need to advertise this router to the dynamic routing protocol.

The Dynamic Routing protocol learns all networks and saves them in the routing table. Also, the best route calculation method is called Routing Algorithm.

Types of Routing Algorithms

The Routing Algorithm is divided into two groups:

1. Distance Vector Algorithm
2. Link State Algorithm
3. Hybrid Algorithm

1. Distance Vector Routing Protocol

The distance vector routing protocol selects the best route to the destination network. When choosing the best route, it takes the distance of each router and registers these distances in Hop Count. The least numbered Hop Number is considered the best way. The vector specifies the direction of the remote network. For example; The RIP protocol is a Distance Vector routing protocol.

2. Link State Routing Protocol

The Link State routing protocol is also called Shortest-Path-First. In this algorithm, the routers hold 3 separate tables. These;

1. Whole Network Topology
2. Neighboring Devices
3. The Routing Table

The Link State routing protocol is a more advanced protocol than the Distance Vector routing protocol. An example of a link state routing protocol is the OSPF protocol.

The Link State routing protocol sends the connection status of the connected networks to the other routers.

3. Hybrid Routing Protocol

The hybrid routing protocol uses both the Distance Vector and the Link State routing protocol. An example of the hybrid routing protocol is the EIGRP protocol. The EIGRP protocol is for Cisco Routers only.
