Cisco SDM Express Basic Configuration – Cisco routers have Cisco’s SDM software to manage with a web-based application. You can install this SDM Express software on the computer and the router. SDM Express is mainly for basic configurations.

Before moving on to the steps of Cisco SDM Express basic configuration, we have already done the Cisco SDM Express installation. We did this with a small topology using GNS3 and VMware Workstation programs. You can find Cisco router SDM Express installation here.
We can move on the steps of Cisco SDM Express basic configuration. These operations are the most basic operations for Cisco routers. This software, which enables Cisco routers to manage on a web-based basis, targets users who do not have command information.
Perform the SDM Express installation first for the Cisco SDM Express basic configuration process. Once you have created the topology, you can proceed to the following steps.
We can easily name the Cisco Router with the CLI command. However, since it covers the use of SDM Express, first run SDM Express via a web browser.
Then, click on Basic Configuration.
To change the Cisco router name, you can give it the name you want from the following section.
After you write the Cisco router name, click the Apply Changes button to save the changes you made.
Cisco routers are notified of commands that are implemented with SDM Express. Click the OK button to close the window.

DHCP Server Configuration with Cisco SDM Express
DHCP server configuration with Cisco SDM Express is also easy with CLI commands. In the Cisco SDM Express interface, select DHCP from the settings that appear in the left pane. Then, the settings related to DHCP will open in the right part.
To enable DHCP Server, enable the option you see in the following image.
Then enter the IP address range you want to distribute over the LAN. Below I set the range 192.168.8.50 – 192.168.8.60 as an example.
You can enter the IP address you want to configure as your DNS server. Here I am entering the FastEthernet0 / 0 IP address 192.168.8.1 as the primary DNS address.
After you apply DHCP Server configuration tasks with Cisco Express, save the settings.
Changes to the Cisco router are implemented.
After configuring DHCP Server with Cisco SDM Express, check the IP address on the VMware Workstation virtual machine. Ip address entered manually.
Automatically set IP and DNS addresses.
As soon as the OK button is pressed, the VMware Workstation virtual machine will receive the IP address and DNS information through the Cisco Router. As you can see in the image below, the settings have been successfully received.

Router Security with Cisco SDM Express
With Cisco SDM Express, Router security can adjust in a few steps. Once you click on Security in the Cisco router SDM Express interface, options will appear in the right pane.
There are 3 options available. We propose your election here in the 3 rd place. And then save the settings.
