How to Make Packet Tracer Desktop Shortcut in Linux Mint 18.3?
To make Packet Tracer desktop shortcut on Linux, follow the steps below.
On Linux systems, installation of Packet Tracer is done to /opt/pt/ location. Go to /opt/pt/bin/ as below and drag and drop the Cisco Packet Tracer.desktop file to the desktop.
On the Linux Mint, open the Terminal and switch to Root using the sudo su command. Then, run the following command to edit the Cisco Packet Tracer.desktop file that you copied to the desktop.
The gedit program is not installed on the terminal screen. To install gedit on Linux, run the apt install gedit command.
apt install gedit
Once you have installed the gedit program for Linux, run the gedit Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop command again.
The contents of the Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop file is as follows. To make Packet Tracer desktop shortcut on Linux Mint, you need to edit the Exec section in the Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop file.
Edit the Cisco-Packet Tracer.desktop file as follows and click the Save button.
Finally, apply the chmod +x Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop command to make the Packet Tracer 7.1.1 desktop shortcut icon visible.
chmod +x Cisco-PacketTracer.desktop
Run and check Packet Tracer to test the desktop shortcut.
