How to Install Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 18.10 without using Wine?
As you know, Wine is a tool used for building Windows programs on Linux. With Wine, you can install many Windows programs on Linux operating systems.
In our previous article, we used Wine to install Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 18.10. There are a lot of problems with installing Packet Tracer on Linux. Because of this, we were able to use Packet Tracer with Wine.
We will solve this problem by installing Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 18.10 without the need for the Wine program.
How to Install Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu?
First, download the required Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 for Linux systems to your computer. On your Ubuntu desktop, press CTRL + Alt + T to open Terminal.
To install Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 18.10 step by step, follow the steps below.
To extract the CiscoPacketTracer.tar file, create a new folder with the mkdir command, and then execute tar -xvzf PacketTracer7.1.1forLinux64bit.tar -C CPT711.
tar -xvzf PacketTracer7.1.1forLinux64bit.tar -C CPT711
Go to the folder you created and install Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 with the command ./install.
After you execute the packettracer command in the terminal, Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 does not open as you see in the following image.
To install Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 on Ubuntu 18.10 smoothly perform the following commands in Terminal. With these commands, dependent programs necessary for Packet Tracer will be installed in your system.
1) sudo apt-get install libqt5webkit5 libqt5multimediawidgets5 libqt5svg5 libqt5script5 libqt5scripttools5 libqt5sql5 2) wget http://mirrors.kernel.org/ubuntu/pool/main/i/icu/libicu52_52.1-3ubuntu0.8_amd64.deb 3) sudo dpkg -i libicu52_52.1-3ubuntu0.8_amd64.deb 4) wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libp/libpng/libpng12-0_1.2.50-2+deb8u3_amd64.deb 5) sudo dpkg -i libpng12-0_1.2.50-2+deb8u3_amd64.deb

Once you have installed the necessary programs, execute the packettracer command again at the Terminal and this time the Packet Tracer will be opened. In the image below, you can check that Cisco Packet Tracer 7.1.1 is running on Ubuntu 18.10.
